One night in December 2014, the two of us happened to be
in the Evangelical Cemetery in Banská Štiavnica near Marína’s grave
As we were chatting, it struck us that such a romantic town as
Banská Štiavnica gave hardly any attention to the love story of
Marína and Sládkovič.
Their love story is actually much more powerful than the tale
of Romeo and Juliet.
The story of the love between Marína and Sládkovič is true, it
really did happen – and it gave birth to the World’s longest love poem!
The poem MARÍNA was born from the real love between Andrej Sládkovič and Marína
Pischlová. Since 1846 it has been the World’s longest love poem.
Banská Štiavnica has everything
to become the new Verona
Millions of people visit Verona to stand on the famous Juliet’s balcony;
on which she never actually stood – as she never existed.
We are confident that when Sládkovič’s MARÍNA becomes as popular
worldwide as Shakespeare’s Juliet; the House of Marína in Banská Štiavnica
will turn into the authentic place of pilgrimage for all those in love.

Marína’s house in desperate need of repair
In spring 2015, we learnt that the historic house – in which Marína Pischlová lived for
most of her life and dating back to the first half of 16th century – was for sale. Its roof
was leaking and it was in desperate need of repair, several walls were damaged due to the
lack of state funds to renovate it.
We had to act fast
When we heard that Marína’s house might be sold to a property developer with plans
to convert it into apartments, we knew that we had to act swiftly!
In order to save the Genius loci of this remarkable place, we decided to buy
the house in which Marína lived for most of her life.
We decided to transform Marína’s house into something exceptional.
Something that will help Banská Štiavnica become the new Verona.
Nowhere could we find anything similar
Looking for inspiration, we travelled around Europe and visited dozens of
interactive experience exhibitions. Unfortunately – or fortunately?
– we didn’t find anything to inspire us. 🙂
